Folegandros
Folegandros is one of the most magical places I have ever visited. It’s only an hour ferry ride from Santorini (and is actually sometimes referred to as ‘little Santorini’ because it shares some similarities) but it feels like a world away. While Santorini is busy and bustling and glamorous, Folegandros is quiet, tranquil and charming. It has a feeling of being a wild, uninhabited paradise. We traveled on the slow ferry from Athens (10 hours) which took us past it’s neighbouring island in the southern Cyclades - Serifos, Sifnos and Sikinos. I was worried that a 10 hour ferry ride would be unbearably boring but the views on the way were amazing. We stayed for 1 month and spent so much time exploring every corner of the island. We wandered the winding white-washed streets of the island’s biggest town, Chora, and hiked up to the Church of Panagia to watch the sunset. We spent lazy afternoons in Agali, where some of the islands most beautiful beaches can be found (Agali beach, Agios Nikolaos, Galifos and Fira). Finally, we spent a few weeks in the island’s most northern village, Ano Meria, which was my favourite place on the island. From Ano Meria you can see the most amazing sunsets and hike down the old mule trails to completely secluded beach coves with crystal clear water (Livadaki, Agios Georgios, Ampeli). Looking at these pictures makes me miss it so much 🤍
